Job description

Role Summary

As a Ship Planner at ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, you will create and manage secure, seaworthy, and efficient stowage plans for container vessels, ensuring operational excellence and safety compliance. Your role will encompass planning round-trip stowage across different regions while optimizing vessel utilization to balance capacity intake against operational costs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement stowage plans that prioritize safety, vessel stability, structural stress management, and correct segregation of hazardous materials.
  • Coordinate the planning process across regions for complete round-trip vessel stowage execution.
  • Maximize vessel loading efficiency, aiming for optimal intake and reduced operational expenses.
  • Lead and manage critical planning objectives such as Trim Optimization, Crane Split, cargo Shiftings, Master Planning, and Slot Utilization.
  • Maintain close communication with terminals and vessel command to ensure flawless plan execution and address any issues promptly.
  • Identify, anticipate, and mitigate operational risks or constraints impacting vessel operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with a broad range of internal teams including Marine Operations, Terminal Operations, Network Management, Deployment, and Regional departments.
  • Ensure all systems, documentation, and records related to stowage planning are accurately maintained and updated.
  • Participate in creating, reviewing, and enhancing Global Planning Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to foster continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in any field.
  • Previous experience in stowage planning, terminal planning, seafaring, or marine operations is advantageous.
  • Recent graduates or candidates with one to three years of experience in non-maritime sectors are also encouraged.
  • Familiarity with stowage planning software or tools is a bonus.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
