Position Overview

The Shift Manager - Base Maintenance will assist the Manager of Base Maintenance in overseeing and controlling maintenance operations for Air Arabia and contracted third-party aircraft within the assigned type ratings. This role ensures all maintenance activities are properly executed, certified, and documented within stipulated timelines, aligning with company procedures and relevant aviation regulations. The position also supports strategic workforce planning to ensure optimal resource utilization, balancing cost-effectiveness with operational demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as deputy to the Base Maintenance Manager, leading engineers and technicians adhering to prescribed procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Act as primary liaison with key stakeholders including MCC, Development and Planning Engineers, and Quality Assurance teams to coordinate daily maintenance operations.
  • Lead teams in conducting maintenance tasks, defect resolution, and troubleshooting based on various inputs such as MCC directives, Technical Log-books, and crew reports, within the scope of authorized duties and expertise.
  • Supervise the fulfillment of third-party Service Level Agreements, ensuring all contracted personnel are appropriately trained and authorized.
  • Guarantee strict adherence to safety standards, proper work procedures, and regulatory requirements while managing human factors to safeguard continuity of critical tasks.
  • Review maintenance planning and aircraft status reports, ensuring timely and efficient task completion while maintaining consistent communication with MCC regarding plan alterations.
  • Coordinate closely with MCC to identify and address any aircraft issues potentially impacting operations or service quality during shifts.
  • Safeguard aircraft airworthiness by supervising thorough inspections and testing in compliance with approved maintenance protocols.
  • Provide guidance, oversight, and performance evaluations to Base Maintenance staff to facilitate effective troubleshooting and defect resolution.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of staff licenses and certifications, highlighting any compliance concerns to management to align with Quality Assurance and GCAA requirements.
  • Manage Base Maintenance resources including manuals, equipment, facilities, and tools, ensuring availability and compliance with operational standards.
  • Implement technical projects directed by the Manager Base Maintenance & Work, ensuring procedure conformity and staff familiarization.
  • Offer proactive support and professional guidance across operational teams, representing technical professionalism positively to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aircraft Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or equivalent; alternatively, a relevant diploma or E&M certificate combined with suitable experience.
  • Current or previous possession of GCAA type-rating EASA Part 66 or GCAA CAR 66 B1 Aircraft Maintenance License, with company authorization; additional aircraft type qualifications preferred (A320 highly desirable).
  • Certification in Project Management or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Additional certifications or training in Cost Control, Compliance, Budgeting, and Quality Assurance are advantageous and potentially mandatory.
  • Proficiency in technology applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent command of English.
  • Ability to obtain a UAE Driver's License.

Experience

  • Over 9 years in line or base maintenance settings, including at least 3 years in supervision and management roles, with minimum 2 years leading teams independently.
  • Familiarity with Civil Aviation Authorities' regulations, particularly GCAA, including engineering maintenance standards, policies, and licensing.
  • Proven leadership managing engineers and technicians under demanding workloads.
  • Experience related to airline environments and flight operations.
  • Knowledge of internal and external audit practices concerning maintenance and safety.
  • Competence in evaluating and guiding team performance in compliance with regulatory policies and quality standards.
  • Involvement in executing technical service level agreements.
  • High precision and meticulous attention to outcomes and detail.
  • Adept at generating, interpreting, and disseminating data and instructions effectively.
