Role Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable Shift Maintenance Engineer for our Engineering team located in Hastings. If you are passionate about diagnosing mechanical issues, thrive in a dynamic production setting, and aim to find root causes rather than temporary fixes, this role is ideal for you.

You will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing packhouse machinery to ensure exceptional operational uptime. Your duties will include both preventative and reactive maintenance, collaborating closely with production staff, contractors, vendors, and other engineers to sustain smooth workflow.

This position requires working on a rotating shift schedule throughout the 36-week packing season, demanding adaptability to fluctuating operational demands.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct preventative maintenance on packhouse machinery
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical breakdowns
• Analyze root causes and implement sustainable solutions
• Assist in maintenance scheduling and managing work orders
• Keep precise maintenance records via the CMMS platform
• Support compliance activities including permit and safety procedures
• Foster strong connections with operations, engineering teams, and external partners
• Participate in continuous improvement programs to boost performance and reliability

Candidate Requirements

• Possess a recognized engineering trade certification
• Have at least four years of experience servicing production machinery
• Background in high-speed manufacturing or production environments
• Proficient in fault diagnosis and root cause resolution
• Experience with workshop machinery and hand tools
• Computer literate with familiarity in maintenance management systems
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety standards
• Willing to work shifts with flexibility especially during the busy apple packing season

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using MEX or equivalent CMMS software
• Familiarity with food manufacturing, processing, or packhouse operations
• Relevant certifications such as LOTO, Permit Issuer/Receiver, Working at Heights, or Confined Space entry
• Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), pneumatics, and automation systems
