Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead both orchard and packhouse functions within our premium stonefruit and cherry operations at Hintons, Alexandra, New Zealand. This dynamic leadership role involves direct engagement across seasonal cycles with responsibilities shifting between packhouse operations during harvest and orchard management throughout the remainder of the year.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and direct teams within the cherry packhouse throughout harvest, ensuring efficiency, safety, quality compliance, and high throughput.
• Collaborate with Operations Manager in planning rosters, coordinating shifts, and managing staffing requirements during peak seasons.
• Monitor adherence to pack specifications, grading standards, and enforce food safety protocols.
• Support machinery operation, conduct troubleshooting, and ensure thorough execution of start-up and shutdown procedures.
• Foster a positive, motivated, and productive team environment during high-demand periods.
• Support orchard activities year-round including pruning, spraying, irrigation, harvesting, and quality monitoring.
• Supervise both seasonal and permanent workforce members ensuring compliance with Global GAP and related industry certifications.
• Contribute actively to continuous improvement initiatives and promote health, safety, and wellbeing culture across operations.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum three years of relevant experience in horticulture, agriculture, packhouse operations, or related fields.
• Proven leadership skills managing teams in fast-paced operational settings.
• Demonstrated practical experience in orchard management and supervision.
• Strong communication abilities, detail-oriented mindset, and capacity to remain composed under pressure.
• A positive, proactive, and collaborative approach to leadership.
• Willingness to work extended hours during seasonal peak periods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in cherry packhouse environments and managing packing or production lines.
• Certification such as Growsafe and forklift license.
• Formal horticultural qualifications or industry training highly regarded.
