Role Overview

The Shift Leader plays a pivotal role in overseeing day-to-day bakery operations during assigned shifts. This position involves guiding the Cookie Crew team, ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining operational standards, and facilitating smooth production and deliveries. Shift Leaders embody leadership by example and motivate their team to uphold company values and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead bakery operations throughout shifts to deliver outstanding guest experiences.
• Manage baking, packaging, and order preparation while ensuring product quality and safety.
• Coach and mentor team members by providing clear instructions, timely feedback, and motivation.
• Prioritize tasks such as baking, cashiering, packaging, and cleaning; delegate responsibilities accordingly.
• Ensure a safe, clean working environment adhering to food safety and hygiene standards.
• Handle cash management tasks including deposits and register accountability.
• Communicate important updates and collaborate with store leadership to optimize store performance.
• Engage directly with the team to support and assist wherever needed.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum one year of experience in customer service roles, preferably in retail, hospitality, or food service.
• Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems.
• Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• Friendly, patient, and outgoing disposition.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on achieving and maintaining high standards.
• Leadership capabilities, including ability to motivate and lead by example.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds regularly.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada and age 18 or older.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for long periods (up to 8 hours per shift).
• Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.
• Comfort in working near ovens, freezers, and refrigeration units with varying temperatures.
• Competence operating kitchen equipment in line with safety protocols.
• Capable of reading order screens, recipes, and safety documents.
• Effective communication in a fast-paced environment with fellow staff and guests.

Work Environment and Schedule

The role is based in a fast-moving bakery setting with frequent guest interaction, exposure to moderate noise levels, temperatures from ovens and refrigerated areas, and cleaning chemicals. Shift work during evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays is regular, with peak hours requiring flexible availability.
