Job description
Overview
The Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing store operations when management is absent. This includes opening and closing the store, cash handling, ensuring the sales floor and stock room are prepared, and managing deliveries by opening the back door for vendors.
Customer Experience
- Welcomes customers and patients, offering assistance with products and services while resolving any issues to ensure satisfaction.
- Sets a strong example by demonstrating excellent customer service behaviors such as greeting customers warmly, maintaining eye contact, and exhibiting courtesy.
- Shares customer service best practices with team members to uphold a superior customer experience aligned with Walgreens service standards.
Operational Responsibilities
- Holds store keys and is entrusted with opening and closing the store as required.
- Supports and coaches staff in order processing tasks including working with vendors, receiving deliveries, and reviewing orders.
- Manages sales transactions on assigned registers, handling scanning errors, price checks, modifications, voids, and cash drops securely.
- Assists store management in addressing order exceptions and reverse logistics activities.
- Helps evaluate and execute store displays for promotions, seasonal events, and sales, including resets.
- Maintains precise inventory records across departments, stockrooms, and overstock areas.
- Ensures team compliance with the Outdate program for product freshness.
- Performs daily pricing updates and ensures proper signage for accurate product pricing as per regulations.
- Contributes to bookkeeping tasks such as cash reports, cash counts, ledger maintenance, and bill payments when needed.
- Supports store maintenance to keep the environment clean, neat, and orderly; requests repairs in management's absence.
- Follows policies for food item separation and correct product placement, including proper rotation using the first-in, first-out method.
- Possesses working knowledge of store systems and equipment.
- Assists at the Pharmacy out window upon request.
- Ensures adherence to laws governing regulated products like alcohol and tobacco.
- Conducts bag checks on team members before they exit the store.
- Complies with all company policies and maintains respectful coworker relationships.
- Completes special assignments and additional tasks as assigned.
Training and Development
- Participates in training sessions and completes Personal Performance Learning (PPL) activities as directed by the manager.
Communication
- Acts as a bridge between management and staff to communicate tasks when management is absent.
- Reports disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management promptly.
Qualifications
- At least one year of experience in leadership, supervisory roles, or as a retail key holder.
- Fluency in English in reading, writing, and speaking (except in Puerto Rico).
- Preferred knowledge of store inventory control systems.
- Applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered.
- If applicable, must obtain and maintain valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license as required by state regulations.
