Role Overview
The Shift Lead position at Walgreens requires the candidate to open and close the store in the absence of management, handling cash operations, preparing the sales floor, and managing deliveries. This role emphasizes creating an outstanding customer experience while supporting store operations and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage store opening and closing by handling systems start-ups, cash handling tasks, and ensuring the floor and stockroom readiness.
- Process product returns, void orders, customer refunds, cash drops, and provide change for registers.
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience through friendly engagement, greeting customers, assisting with products and services, and resolving issues promptly.
- Serve as an example of excellent customer service practices and train team members on interpersonal skills and Walgreens service traits.
- Hold and manage store keys for opening and closing operations when management isn’t available.
- Support and guide team members in managing warehouse and vendor orders, including receiving deliveries by opening the back door.
- Ensure accurate registration of sales transactions on assigned cash registers, documenting errors and price adjustments.
- Help managers review order exceptions and assist with reverse logistics tasks such as returns and package handling.
- Participate in merchandising efforts including displays, promotional setups, and store resets to enhance visual presentation.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts across departments, stockroom, and overstock areas.
- Support the Outdate program to prevent expired product sales.
- Handle basic department pricing, updating daily price changes and ensuring proper signage is displayed in compliance with regulations.
- Assist with bookkeeping tasks involving cash reports, cash counts, ledgers, and bill payments when requested.
- Maintain store cleanliness and appearance, performing repairs or requesting upkeep during management absence.
- Ensure proper food separation and product rotation according to company policies, especially for consumable items.
- Possess working knowledge of store systems and equipment operation.
- Assist pharmacy window operations as needed.
- Enforce compliance with legal regulations for controlled items such as alcohol and tobacco.
- Conduct team member bag checks upon store exit.
- Comply with company policies, maintain respectful coworker relations, and complete special assignments as assigned.
Training and Communication
- Attend training sessions and complete required learning modules as assigned by management.
- Act as a liaison between management and staff, communicating tasks and reporting issues like disciplinary actions or customer complaints during management absence.
Qualifications
- At least one year of leadership, supervisory, or retail keyholder experience.
- Fluent English speaking, reading, and writing skills (except for Puerto Rico).
- Preferably knowledgeable in store inventory control.
- Applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered.
- Maintain valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license if required by the state.
