Role Overview

The Engineering team at Agoda integrates expertise in Data Engineering, Machine Learning, Business Analytics, and Backend Engineering. They develop and maintain powerful data pipelines, ML models, operational and analytical databases, queue systems, and monitoring tools that drive business decisions and improve user experience by handling large-scale structured and unstructured data.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical efforts to improve scalability, accuracy, speed, quality, and efficiency of existing data and ML processes.
• Analyze complex datasets to support enhanced business decision-making.
• Design, build, and test tools, libraries, and platforms to enable data science and business teams in launching experiments into production swiftly.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to automate large-scale data management, analysis, and ML workflows.
• Assume end-to-end ownership of systems facilitating rapid experiment deployment in production.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a relevant field.
• 6+ years of software engineering experience including at least 4 years focused on data or machine learning engineering.
• Proficiency in developing, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines and systems with a strong emphasis on data quality.
• Advanced command of SQL, Python 3, and JVM-based languages such as Java or Scala.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, design patterns, best practices, functional and object-oriented programming.
• Familiarity with technologies including Python 3, Scala Spark, Hadoop, SQL, and Amazon S3.
• Working knowledge of general machine learning concepts and typical models like regularization and tree-based algorithms.
• Basic understanding of statistical methods including p-value and z-score analysis.
• Analytical mindset with proven problem-solving skills driven by data-focused engineering.

Preferred Experience

• In-depth knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem and big data architectures.
• Experience with Scala and Spark development.
• Familiarity with agile practices and test-driven development.
• Capabilities in Linux system administration.
