Senior Virtualisation Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Virtualisation Engineer to oversee, maintain, and enhance our enterprise virtualization systems. This position requires expert technical support for advanced VMware infrastructure, including ESXi hosts, vCenter management, cluster operations, capacity planning, and troubleshooting complex incidents.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support VMware ESXi servers, vCenter, clusters, datastores, and virtual machines.
• Deliver L2 and L3 assistance to resolve sophisticated virtualization issues and incidents.
• Conduct thorough analysis and root-cause investigations for technical problems.
• Monitor and fine-tune virtualization infrastructure to maximize performance and resource use.
• Plan capacity and foresee potential infrastructure limitations.
• Manage VM provisioning, configuration, migration, and lifecycle processes.
• Oversee VMware platform upgrades, patching, routine maintenance, and migrations.
• Ensure cluster health, availability, performance, and capacity meet standards.
• Collaborate with teams managing storage, backup, networking, and infrastructure components.
• Support backup and disaster recovery operations, including VMware integrations with Veeam solutions.
• Engage in critical incident handling and act as a technical escalation point.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, configuration logs, and operational procedures.
• Adhere to IT service management, change management, security protocols, and governance policies.

Educational and Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a similar discipline.
• A minimum of five years of practical experience managing enterprise VMware environments.
• Proficient in VMware ESXi and vCenter platforms.
• Hands-on experience providing L2 and L3 technical support.
• Strong foundation in virtualization, server, storage, networking, and backup systems.
• Excellent troubleshooting capabilities and experience with root-cause analysis.
• Experience operating within ITIL/ITSM frameworks.

Preferred Certifications and Skills

• VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV).
• VMware Certified Advanced Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCAP-DCV).
• Certification in Veeam Backup & Replication technology.
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise virtualization deployments.
• Knowledge and experience in disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
