Position Overview

We are recruiting a Senior Structural Engineer for our Madinah, Saudi Arabia project. The role requires an accomplished structural engineer highly skilled in reviewing structural and reinforcement shop drawings for significant transport infrastructure and reinforced concrete works. Responsibilities include verifying contractor drawings against approved designs and standards, ensuring accurate detailing and constructability, coordinating interdisciplinary aspects, and managing the timely resolution of review comments. Strong technical judgment, clear communication, and organization in handling multiple submissions within deadlines are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine structural general arrangement, concrete outlines, and reinforcement shop drawings to ensure compliance with issued-for-construction documents, specifications, and project standards.
• Assess bar bending schedules for correctness of bar marks, diameters, spacing, quantities, shapes, bending details, and alignment with reinforcement drawings.
• Verify detailed reinforcement work including concrete cover, lap splices, anchorage, development lengths, couplers, links, confinement spacing, openings reinforcement, and joints.
• Review detailing for structural components such as foundations, pile caps, piers, abutments, beams, slabs, walls, underpasses, and station-related structures.
• Detect congestion in reinforcement, dimensional conflicts, omissions, and sequencing challenges; collaborate with contractors and designers to resolve issues pragmatically.
• Validate structural interfaces with architectural, road, drainage, utilities, MEP and other disciplines, focusing on openings, sleeves, embedded items, anchor bolt placements, and cast-in elements.
• Initiate and respond to technical queries, review contractors’ RFIs, and route proposed design modifications to responsible designers for approval.
• Draft clear review comments, evaluate resubmissions, and track closure of remarks within agreed timeframes.
• Work closely with design, construction, QA/QC, and document management teams to clarify drawing discrepancies and address site queries.
• Maintain detailed registers and logs for drawing reviews, version histories, submission tracking, and comment resolutions ensuring traceability.
• Review structural as-built drawings against approved documentation, RFIs, site changes, and accepted revisions.
• Advise on drawing approvals or rejections consistent with delegated authority and project control protocols.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• Between 8 and 12 years of hands-on experience in structural engineering, specializing in reviewing structural and reinforcement shop drawings.
• Proven expertise working on bridges, transport infrastructure, viaducts, underpasses, stations, or similar reinforced concrete projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of reinforcement detailing, bar bending schedules, construction methodologies, constructability, and interdisciplinary coordination.
• Ability to interpret structural design calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, IFC drawings, RFIs, and contractor submissions.
• Familiarity with Saudi Building Code, and standards such as ACI, AASHTO, Eurocodes, British Standards, or other infrastructure-related codes.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, PDF drawing review programs, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with BIM coordination platforms, model review processes, and electronic document or common data environment management tools is advantageous.
• Previous work exposure within Saudi Arabia or GCC infrastructure projects is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills to identify detailing inconsistencies, sequencing challenges, and constructability concerns.
• Effective written communication skills for preparing review comments and professional interactions in English.
• Adept in handling multiple submissions simultaneously and coordinating smoothly with contractors and design teams to meet strict review schedules.
