Job Overview
The Critical Utilities Team at Bristol Myers Squibb is looking for a Utilities Electrical Engineer to support the operation and reliability of site utility systems. This role focuses on ensuring compliance, safety, quality, and equipment reliability with an emphasis on lean principles and reliability-driven improvements. The position involves collaboration with plant subject matter experts (SMEs), operations, and other departments to advance the reliability excellence strategy and transform the facility into a model biopharmaceutical site.
Utility and Electrical Systems
- Boilers, chillers, cooling towers, water systems, HVAC, sprinkler systems, compressed air, fuel oil systems
- Electrical distribution including 10kV and low voltage systems
- Life safety systems such as gas detection and fire detection
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute utilities maintenance and operations strategies as the frontline engineering support
- Collaborate with plant SMEs to ensure regulatory compliance and engineering best practices
- Manage utilities asset strategies, preventive maintenance (PM) development, and optimization
- Maintain accurate asset, PM, and job plan records reflecting utilities scope
- Monitor and report program performance with targeted key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Provide technical troubleshooting for electrical, life safety, and control systems related to utilities
- Resolve issues escalated by the utility operations team
- Understand and support utility control systems such as building automation and process automation
- Develop equipment reliability measurements and performance monitoring methodologies
- Engage with equipment vendors for troubleshooting and performance enhancement
- Establish vendor service level agreements (SLAs)
- Lead investigations on utilities equipment and systems
- Train operations personnel on utility systems
- Collaborate with planners and area owners/SMEs to develop preventive maintenance plans
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 5 years in utility systems within a regulated manufacturing environment
- Minimum electrical trade qualification with career advancements or a level 8 degree in electrical engineering
- Experience with hardwired control systems and safety circuitry
- Knowledge of life safety and security systems including fire alarm, access control, CCTV, and emergency lighting
- Ability to interpret functional design specifications, electrical/control drawings, and P&IDs
- Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts and maintenance management
- Experience in utility start-up, commissioning, and maintenance shutdown planning
- Project management or reliability program development experience is advantageous
- Proficient computer skills including CMMS and safety investigation or utility system software
- Understanding of operational excellence (OPEX) and lean principles
- Experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical sectors with knowledge of safety, quality, and cGMP regulations
- Strong organizational, delegation, and planning skills with the ability to work independently and in teams under dynamic conditions
- Advocate of safety and BMS behavioral standards
