Senior Specialist, Cloud Application Engineer

Job Overview

As a Cloud Application Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-grade applications within IHS's digital platform. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Applications, this position involves full-stack development with React and .NET Core APIs, managing cloud-native databases, and overseeing deployment and operations on Microsoft Azure.

Primary Responsibilities

• Create and sustain web applications with React for front-end and .NET Core APIs for backend, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
• Develop and maintain database structures in SQL Azure and manage collections within Azure Cosmos DB.
• Design and implement integrations between internal systems and external platforms utilizing REST APIs, Azure Service Bus, and Azure API Management.
• Handle deployment, configuration, and infrastructure management on Microsoft Azure including App Services, Azure Functions, and Container Apps.
• Participate in architectural reviews, technical designs, and agile sprint planning.
• Monitor application performance, troubleshoot production issues, and implement preventive actions.
• Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps, applying DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code best practices.
• Enforce security measures across all application layers, focusing on authentication, authorization, and data security.
• Collaborate with cross-departmental teams, including product, design, operations, and vendors, to deliver robust solutions.

Key Competencies and Skills

• Proficiency in React and .NET Core for full-stack enterprise application development.
• Practical experience in cloud engineering using Microsoft Azure services.
• Expertise in managing relational and NoSQL databases like SQL Azure and Cosmos DB.
• Skillful in designing integrations using REST APIs and event-driven messaging systems.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD processes, Azure DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Bicep and ARM templates.
• Understanding of security principles including Azure AD/Entra ID authentication techniques.
• Familiar with React hooks, state management (Redux/Context API), TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3.
• Experienced with C#, Entity Framework Core, middleware patterns, and RESTful API authentication mechanisms (OAuth 2.0, Azure AD/Entra ID).
• Hands-on with Azure PaaS services like App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, API Management, Key Vault, and Azure Monitor.
• Experience in microservices and event-driven architectures, enterprise system integration patterns.
• Excellent debugging, code review, and performance-tuning capabilities.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar tools.
• Strong communication skills for articulating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Adaptability to evolving requirements and new Azure technologies.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related disciplines.
• Between 3 to 5 years of professional experience in software development.
• Proven experience with React and .NET Core API development.
• Hands-on deployment and operation of applications on Microsoft Azure platform.
• Practical knowledge of SQL Azure and Azure Cosmos DB in production environments.
• Familiarity with RESTful API design and enterprise-grade system integration.
• Microsoft Azure certification (such as AZ-204 or AZ-900) is an advantage.
