Role Overview

This Senior Software Engineer role within the Technical Computing team focuses on leading technical strategy and delivering high-quality cloud-capable geoscience computational algorithms. The position involves innovation in computing technologies like CPU and GPU optimization and includes contributing to the evolution of the Seequent Evo ecosystem. Working within a specialised small team, you will be a pivotal developer and contributor.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and sustain reusable frameworks and libraries to facilitate geoscience computational workloads on cloud platforms.
• Assist in migrating existing desktop algorithms to scalable, cloud-native architectures.
• Collaborate with other engineering groups to promote adoption of cloud computing frameworks.
• Perform and participate in code reviews, promoting best practices for performance-driven development.
• Develop and enhance computational algorithms focusing on scalability and speed.
• Leverage profiling and optimization techniques for efficient CPU and GPU performance.
• Contribute to parallelization strategies and high-performance computing solutions.
• Develop algorithms and components usable across multiple engineering teams.
• Provide technical guidance on design decisions and integration strategies.
• Lead technical discussions, presentations, and requirements gathering as needed.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams specializing in geotech, geophysics, and geostatistics to deliver compute capabilities.
• Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing across the engineering organisation.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum five years’ experience in designing and delivering scalable, testable software at product level.
• Proficiency with fundamental design principles and patterns for clean, scalable architecture.
• Advanced programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
• Experienced in performance profiling and software optimization techniques.
• Understanding of parallel computing or distributed systems.
• Exposure to GPU programming (such as CUDA) highly desirable.
• Familiarity with cloud environments beneficial but not mandatory.
• Experience with continuous integration and delivery pipelines (e.g., GitHub, GitLab).
• Strong coding and algorithm design best practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Passion for mathematics, scientific computing, or computational problem-solving.

Work Environment and Additional Information
