Job description
About Seequent
Seequent empowers organizations with advanced technology to better understand underground environments, enabling faster and more confident decision-making. They develop cutting-edge Earth science technologies used worldwide to sustainably advance mineral resource development, infrastructure design, renewable energy sourcing, and environmental impact reduction. Headquartered in New Zealand, their influence spans over 145 countries.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer experienced in cloud computing services to help build our next-generation cloud geodata platform. This is an exciting opportunity within a highly skilled team focused on innovative cloud technologies that support Seequent's market-leading solutions, such as Seequent Evo.
Specifically, you will contribute to BlockSync, a new SaaS product for managing block models—3D representations of mining and exploration environments. This platform enhances collaboration, manages subsets of large models, and provides insights to support smarter decisions.
Technical Environment
Our solutions integrate features from multiple cloud providers, predominantly Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The backend APIs utilize Python paired with FastAPI and Pydantic, deployed through container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes. We employ GitHub and GitHub Actions for source control and continuous integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement sophisticated software components and applications to advance technological capabilities.
- Develop prototypes, simulations, and software behavior models to validate designs with stakeholders.
- Write, test, document, and refine complex code and integration scripts to build efficient, reliable solutions.
- Engage in code reviews, collaborate via pair programming, and contribute to automation practices promoting software engineering excellence.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary development teams.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers and participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Lead technical discussions and foster continuous innovation and improvement.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Have at least seven years of experience in relevant software engineering roles.
- Demonstrate strong expertise with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, and experience using Kubernetes for container orchestration.
- Possess a firm understanding of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, with familiarity in GitHub Actions considered advantageous.
- Experience in Python and FastAPI is highly preferred. Candidates with different technology backgrounds but enthusiasm for transitioning to Python are encouraged to apply, as training will be provided on the job.
- Knowledge of concurrency, parallelism, and modern API design is beneficial.
Working Conditions and Location
This is an office-based position requiring presence in Christchurch, New Zealand, for at least three days weekly with a hybrid working model.
Diversity and Inclusion Commitment
Seequent values diversity, equity, and inclusion and is committed to creating a workplace where all individuals can thrive. Accommodations are available throughout the hiring process to ensure equal access. The company encourages applications from a broad range of candidates, including those who might not meet every stated criterion.
