Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer in the UI team, you will contribute to designing, implementing, and optimizing the systems that define Roku's user and developer experiences. Key focus areas include performance-critical code in graphics rendering, animations, layout engines, and UI frameworks to ensure fluid visuals and instantaneous responsiveness across diverse hardware. Collaborating closely with hardware, firmware, and application teams, you will shape core architectures and directly impact tens of millions of users globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scalable UI features tailored for millions of users.
• Lead technical research and architect comprehensive solutions spanning middleware, UI frameworks, and rendering pipelines.
• Incorporate AI/ML functionalities and generative AI tools to speed up development and enhance developer productivity.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deploy platform-wide features that improve performance and reliability measurably.
• Create and maintain engineering tools, frameworks, and automated workflows that boost coding efficiency and maintain high-quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers through design critiques, collaborative programming, and well-structured documentation.
• Stay informed on emerging trends in platform development, graphics technologies, and AI; proactively seek opportunities to advance performance and developer experience.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience focused on UI frameworks or application development.
• Advanced proficiency in BrightScript or similar JavaScript-like languages, along with strong Python skills.
• Experience with TypeScript considered an advantage.
• Hands-on expertise in C++ programming.
• Excellent root cause analysis capabilities and clear, effective communication skills.
• Familiarity with AI applications and practical experience using generative AI tools and workflows.
• A proactive and enthusiastic approach to continuous learning, rapid iteration, and data-driven refinement.
