Team and Role Overview

The Consumer Mobile team develops the Kraken app — the user interface millions use to manage their money. The team primarily uses React Native to create intuitive, swift, and dependable financial experiences. Engineers collaborate closely with Product and Design to deeply understand client challenges, question assumptions, design solutions, and evaluate shipped features for user impact.

The role focuses on expanding Kraken into Asian markets by developing a new app tailored for regional user expectations, design nuances, and technical barriers such as firewalls and connectivity constraints.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-quality React Native features end-to-end, from conceptualizing ambiguous client needs through implementation, release, analytics, and refinement.
• Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to craft thoughtful, engaging, and reliable financial user experiences, including discovery phases and trading workflows.
• Implement API-driven, data-intensive applications utilizing dynamic or real-time data, making informed choices on state management, rendering performance, app architecture, and dependability.
• Encourage elevated engineering standards through active technical discussions, thorough code reviews, and a strong sense of product ownership.
• Lead regional expertise for the Asian market app development, advising on cultural UX considerations, firewall/ connectivity mitigation, and recommending suitable tools and telemetry solutions.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Extensive experience in React Native development, including launching production-grade applications and making well-informed architectural and implementation decisions within modern mobile codebases.
• A product-focused mindset possessing strong judgment; able to begin with user problems, simplify or challenge requirements when necessary, and convert vague challenges into measurable product outcomes.
• Capability to take full ownership of features, utilizing metrics, experimentation, user interactions, and feedback to iteratively enhance delivered solutions.
• Proficiency in building responsive, data-rich applications interfaces using APIs and real-time data streams, alongside effective communication with Product and Design teams in English, both written and verbal.
• Adaptability and smart use of AI tools like Cursor, Copilot, or Claude to accelerate development workflows while maintaining quality and sound engineering decisions.
• Demonstrated experience creating and deploying consumer mobile applications for Asian markets, with in-depth understanding of regional UX and design norms, technical restrictions, and navigation of launch challenges including firewall and connectivity issues.

Preferred Additional Expertise

• Experience in financial technology sectors such as fintech, trading, crypto, or payments, including familiarity with trading, investment, or financial products.
• Expertise in managing real-time or streaming data and optimizing mobile app performance, responsiveness, and stability across device ranges.
• Experience working across both mobile and web platforms or in startups/small-medium tech firms where close collaboration between engineers, Product, and Design is common.
• Native mobile development skills in Swift or Kotlin, and sound judgment on when to dive beneath the React Native layer.
• Proficiency in an Asian language such as Mandarin (Chinese) is a bonus.
