Job description
About the Role
The Customer Observability team at MongoDB delivers solutions that empower users to manage MongoDB databases at a global scale, underpinning MongoDB Atlas — our fastest-growing database-as-a-service platform. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join us in crafting innovative observability tooling and platforms that monitor and enhance the performance and health of MongoDB deployments worldwide.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain code related to observability features, lead complex engineering projects, and analyze large-scale distributed production environments for issues. Collaborating closely with team members, you will refine our codebase and engineering standards. In addition, your work will extend to troubleshooting and resolving customer support escalations, participating in on-call duties, and mentoring junior colleagues.
Requirements
Applicants should have a minimum of five years’ experience developing backend or full-stack systems, preferably with expertise in compiled languages such as Java, C#, or Go. A solid grasp of algorithms and data structures, coupled with practical experience in scalable modern web application architecture, is essential. The ideal candidate enjoys collaborative teamwork, is inquisitive and honest, and demonstrates strong problem-solving capabilities in distributed and database diagnostic contexts. Familiarity with production debugging and continuous learning of emerging technologies are also necessary.
Preferred Skills
Experience with distributed event streaming technologies like Kafka or WarpStream, event processing frameworks such as Flink, exposure to TypeScript, React, and Node.js ecosystems, and knowledge of database internals and tuning—especially indexing—are advantageous.
Performance Milestones
- Within one month, familiarize with the team’s system components and make initial contributions.
- By three months, actively participate in design and development, delivering assigned tasks regularly.
- Within six months, handle medium to large projects independently, engage deeply in technical discussions, improve code and product quality, and support customer escalations including on-call rotations.
