Role Overview

The Infrastructure Engineering team is dedicated to delivering cloud-native infrastructure, automated solutions, and tools that enable various teams across Toast to release products securely, efficiently, and with minimal operational overhead.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, your responsibilities include designing platform architecture alongside automating and implementing landing zones, as well as managing network and security infrastructure for new AWS regions.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate within a Scrum team to develop, document, and maintain infrastructure as code modules.
• Build, document, and support tools and services that facilitate continuous integration, delivery, and deployment of reliable infrastructure across multiple environments.
• Implement DevOps best practices to promote high quality standards and enable developer productivity.
• Create utilities aiding developers in transitioning infrastructure components from monolithic repositories to individual service repositories compatible with Toast's internal developer platform (IDP).
• Advocate for and develop unit tests for internal tooling.
• Set and enforce coding standards and design principles, guiding their adoption within the scrum team.
• Mentor and assist developers organization-wide in utilizing and extending Infrastructure as Code tooling, employing DevOps methodologies.

Required Qualifications

• At least 6 years of software engineering experience with a focus on DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
• Proficient in object-oriented programming, preferably in Java or Kotlin.
• Practical experience authoring custom Terraform providers.
• Strong expertise with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure infrastructure SDKs.
• In-depth knowledge of Infrastructure as Code frameworks internal workings and SDKs (e.g., Terraform providers, Ansible modules/plugins).
• Experience managing large-scale infrastructure supporting both production and non-production workloads.
• Skilled in implementing continuous integration, deployment, and delivery pipelines for cloud infrastructure supporting hundreds of developers.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse and successful team with a customer-first mindset.
• Proven track record in leading the development and scaling of critical platform capabilities.

Preferred but Not Essential Skills

• Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude.
