Senior Software Engineer DevSecOps

About the Role

Boeing Defence Australia seeks a DevSecOps Engineer to support the Wakulda program based in Brisbane. The candidate will be integral in delivering and maintaining the SCVMM HA Datacentre fabric along with multi-pipeline CI/CD and lab environments, all within a self-hosted, on-premises infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the adoption of a comprehensive 'Everything-as-Code' approach by integrating Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automated security measures, and governance throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Design, deploy, and scale automated end-to-end workflows managing infrastructure from bare-metal and hypervisor levels to the application stack across Windows and Linux platforms using SCVMM and Ansible.
• Develop, migrate, and support complex multi-stage CI/CD pipelines using Bitbucket/Jenkins and GitLab CI/CD, emphasizing robust promotion strategies and "build once, deploy anywhere" principles.
• Engineer automated processes for deploying, scaling, and maintaining high-availability stateful platforms such as GitLab (Omnibus), Artifactory, SonarQube, and Ansible Automation Platform, ensuring strong storage management and disaster recovery readiness.
• Create sophisticated telemetry and observability systems utilizing tools like Grafana and Splunk to provide actionable service-level insights (SLIs/SLOs) beyond standard monitoring.
• Promote production-grade software development standards within automation and CI/CD ecosystems, applying rigorous version control, modular designs, and testing for workflows in Ansible, Python, PowerShell, and Bash.

Technical Competencies

• Proven proficiency implementing DevSecOps principles and Infrastructure-as-Code in on-premises, self-hosted, and highly virtualized environments.
• Expertise in automation and orchestration using Ansible and SCVMM across hybrid Windows and Linux infrastructures.
• Extensive experience managing CI/CD toolchains including version control with GitLab and Bitbucket, build automation with Jenkins and GitLab CI, build tools like Maven, and artifact repositories such as JFrog Artifactory.
• Strong software development acumen with expertise in scripting languages including Ansible, Jinja, Python, PowerShell, and Bash; emphasis on best software engineering practices.
• Skilled in creating observability frameworks and security information and event management (SIEM) solutions using Grafana and Splunk to enable proactive security monitoring and incident response.
• Deep understanding of virtualization stacks, including Hyper-V Failover Clusters, hardware, OS management, and orchestration for enterprise-level virtualization.
• Ability to integrate security governance, vulnerability scanning (SonarQube), and compliance controls into automated deployment pipelines, adopting shift-left security methodologies.

Qualifications & Compliance

• Advanced technical education such as a Bachelor's degree combined with at least six years of experience in CI/CD system administration, DevOps, software or platform engineering.
• Applicants must be Australian Citizens to satisfy Defence security requirements and must be willing to undergo government vetting, supported by Boeing Defence Australia.
