Role Overview

The Developer Productivity & Services Programme at GovTech supports thousands of government developers by managing tools and platforms essential for software delivery. This includes everything from tool discovery portals and AI-assisted development systems to Kubernetes-based deployment platforms and a Central Product Marketplace that simplifies product discovery, subscription, billing, and operations.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer passionate about building and operating scalable, resilient Developer Productivity Platforms. The role goes beyond coding and embraces platform thinking, backend engineering, developer experience enhancement, and production engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Create developer-centric abstractions over cloud-native services (AWS, Kubernetes), CI/CD tools, observability, and security controls to minimize tenant teams' need to manage complex details.
• Develop platform APIs, services, CLIs, automation workflows, and tools that simplify infrastructure consumption while maintaining safety and reliability.
• Establish stable interfaces with thoughtful versioning, error handling, testing protocols, and thorough documentation for platform components.
• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows such as Claude Code and spec-driven development to accelerate high-quality software delivery.
• Design reusable CI/CD workflows ensuring safe, auditable, and repeatable software deployments.
• Implement observability features including dashboards, alerts, SLOs, and the Four Golden Signals to improve service reliability.
• Enhance backup, restore, rollback, incident response, and recovery capabilities through automation, better software, and detailed documentation.
• Create reusable provisioning modules and platform interfaces that embed infrastructure standards and guardrails.
• Develop self-service workflows for environment provisioning, deployments, monitoring, and operational readiness.
• Use developer productivity metrics (e.g., DORA, SPACE, DX Core 4) to identify friction points and drive platform improvements.
• Collaborate closely with tenant teams and stakeholders to understand operational challenges and iterate platform enhancements based on feedback.
• Produce clear documentation, onboarding materials, runbooks, and example use cases for platform users.

Candidate Profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals with proven ability to develop secure, high-quality software.
• Excellent analytical and debugging skills with a knack for reasoning about abstract problems.
• Effective communication skills to work with diverse teams including engineers, policy officers, UX designers, cybersecurity experts, and partner agencies.
