Team and Role
The team primarily focuses on creating and refining the UI framework and components that deliver the Roku user experience. Engineers act as proactive owners, collaborating with diverse teams including UI design, product management, and business leadership to ensure timely delivery and impactful results. This role is pivotal in continuing Roku's innovation in streaming technology by developing core embedded platform features.
Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and advance the high-performance grid rendering engine that powers Roku's app ecosystem.
- Work closely with teams responsible for the Home Screen and Electronic Program Guide (EPG) to incorporate feature enhancements and refine UI responsiveness.
- Develop comprehensive unit, integration, and functional testing suites to guarantee responsive and reliable user experiences across devices.
- Leverage deep understanding of Linux operating system and OS concepts to enhance system stability and overall performance.
- Operate effectively and independently within a distributed team spanning multiple time zones and locations.
- Contribute to architectural design forums and participate in peer code reviews to uphold best embedded C++ development practices.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years in professional software engineering with an emphasis on embedded systems or UI performance optimization.
- Strong command of C++ programming, particularly in rendering engine or UI framework development and tuning.
- In-depth knowledge of Linux operating system and experience working in Linux-based environments.
- Demonstrated experience using test automation tools as part of software development workflows.
- Familiarity with embedded development concepts, particularly related to mid-level firmware or system software.
- Proven capacity to work autonomously in remote and asynchronous team settings across various time zones.
- Excellent communication skills facilitating collaboration with multifunctional teams.
- Consistent track record of producing efficient, maintainable code delivering high-performance and responsive user experiences.
Work Arrangement
The company supports a hybrid working model where employees collaborate in-office Monday through Thursday, with flexible remote work on Fridays unless role-specific or office policy requires full-time presence.
