Department Overview

Our RFSite Software Engineering team is a critical element within our Critical Communications Networks segment, comprising diverse professionals including software and system engineers, product architects, and testers working globally. We use the latest virtualization technologies on Linux platforms while embracing modern development methodologies like CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, and Agile/Scrum.

Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Agile Scrum team focused on creating containerized Linux user-space services and applications supporting mission-critical land mobile radio systems. The role involves developing high-quality Python services deployed in containers, integrating AI development tools, and supporting/debugging legacy C++ components.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain Linux user-space applications with modern Python within containerized environments.
• Incorporate AI-assisted programming tools and integrate AI/ML capabilities or automated analytics as relevant.
• Develop networked applications involving socket programming and protocol handling such as TCP/IP and UDP on Linux.
• Expand and maintain automated testing coverage including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Interface, read, and debug existing embedded or legacy C/C++ code and APIs.
• Engage with RF telecommunications domain concepts, radio infrastructure, and network protocols throughout integration phases.
• Ensure code quality by utilizing CI/CD pipelines and static analysis tools.
• Conduct practical on-site testing and configuration involving both virtualized environments and real RF hardware.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, or a Master's degree with relevant experience.
• Proficient in developing software using modern Python.
• Strong command of Linux operating system fundamentals, user-space architecture, and networking principles including TCP/IP and sockets.
• Experience working with Linux user-space development and containerization platforms.
• Practical knowledge of automated testing frameworks.
• Ability to debug, read, and interface with C and C++ codebases.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Exposure to AI/ML tools such as AI coding assistants, prompt engineering, or API integrations.
• Familiarity with RF, Telecommunications, or Land Mobile Radio systems.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and code static analysis tools.
• Proficiency using version control (Git) and task tracking systems (Jira).
• Skilled in employing network diagnostic tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional teamwork.

Work Environment and Other Details

• Role is full-time and onsite at the Cork, Ireland location.
• Work involves direct access to containerized Linux servers and physical RF test lab equipment.
• There is no required travel or relocation assistance.
