Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer driven to tackle infrastructure challenges by leveraging software engineering and automation. In this role, you will architect, develop, and sustain comprehensive automation frameworks that optimize cloud infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and operational workflows.

Your responsibilities will involve programmatic infrastructure development using Python, Jinja2 templating, and Terraform, facilitating scalable Infrastructure as Code (IaC). You will also work with Puppet for configuration management and develop PowerShell automation to enhance Windows environment operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement automation frameworks in Python to enable standardized and repeatable deployments across cloud and on-premises setups.
• Develop Terraform code-generation solutions using Python and Jinja2 templates to produce validated and environment-specific infrastructure code.
• Create and maintain Puppet modules, manifests, and Hiera configurations managing Linux and Windows nodes at scale.
• Develop robust PowerShell automation scripts to optimize server management, Active Directory, and hybrid cloud tasks within Windows environments.
• Build internal tools, CLI utilities, and APIs to simplify infrastructure workflows, empowering engineering teams with self-service capabilities.
• Integrate automation frameworks with CI/CD pipelines to automate validation, testing, and infrastructure deployment processes.
• Implement thorough testing strategies for infrastructure code, including unit, linting, and integration testing to ensure software quality and reduce risks.
• Collaborate with cloud, platform, and application teams to identify and eliminate manual tasks by pioneering automation-first solutions.
• Create comprehensive documentation, standards, and runbooks to ensure the scalability and maintainability of automation projects.
• Contribute actively to the engineering culture via code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvements in automation quality, security, and maintainability.

Required Skills and Experience

• Over 5 years of professional Python development experience focused on writing structured, testable application code rather than simple scripting.
• Expertise with Python packaging, virtual environments, dependency tools like pip and Poetry, and code quality utilities such as pylint, black, and mypy.
• Experience building CLI tools and automation frameworks using libraries like Click or Typer.
• Proficiency in Jinja2 templating for crafting reusable and parameterized templates used in configuration and infrastructure code generation.
• Familiarity with pytest for unit and integration testing of automation scripts and frameworks.
• Advanced knowledge of Terraform: module structuring, state management, remote backends, workspaces, and dependency graphs.
• Proven ability to generate Terraform HCL programmatically using Python and Jinja2 to build templated infrastructure pipelines.
• Working knowledge of Terraform supplemental tools such as tflint, tfsec, terraform-docs, Terragrunt, or Atlantis.
• Experienced in Puppet configuration management including writing manifests, modules, Hiera data hierarchies, node classification, and utilizing r10k or Code Manager workflows.
• Capability to manage mixed Linux and Windows environments at scale with Puppet, employing puppet-lint, rspec-puppet, and automated testing pipelines.
• Competence in PowerShell scripting targeted at Windows Server automation, Active Directory, Group Policy, and hybrid cloud integration with AWS and Azure tooling.
• Working knowledge of Pester framework for PowerShell unit testing and creating reusable PowerShell modules with robust error handling.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch as automation targets.
• Familiarity integrating infrastructure code pipelines within CI/CD platforms like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
• Comfort and experience operating production Linux and Windows Server environments.
