Senior Software Developer

About the Role

Safe Software is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the Form product group. The chosen candidate will be responsible for developing scalable and maintainable solutions, shaping architecture and cross-team practices, and mentoring fellow developers while contributing directly to FME Form product improvements used by a global customer base.

Team Environment

You will collaborate closely with a diverse and dynamic team including team leaders, developers, quality analysts, interns, product managers, and UX designers. Together, you will enhance flagship products that enable users to create, share, and integrate data workflows seamlessly across the FME Platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and oversee the implementation of complex, impactful features and systems within the product.
• Lead initiatives that span multiple teams and departments, ensuring alignment on technical solutions and priorities.
• Coach and mentor developers at various skill levels, fostering knowledge exchange and professional growth.
• Promote and apply best practices in software design, testing, security, and performance optimization.
• Drive efforts to reduce technical debt, enhance system reliability, and improve development processes.
• Engage actively in product planning by representing technical viewpoints alongside Product Management and UX teams.
• Provide expert feedback during code and design reviews to uphold quality and maintainability.
• Contribute to refining Safe Software's development culture, standards, and tooling strategies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 7 years of professional experience in software development, including leadership roles on complex projects and systems.
• Advanced expertise in C++ for core system development and strong Python skills focused on automation and scripting.
• Demonstrated proficiency in architectural design, debugging, and optimization within large-scale distributed systems.
• Excellent communicator and mentor capable of fostering collaboration and guiding teams through change.
• Strategic thinker with an ability to balance technical depth with understanding of business context and identify innovative solutions.

Preferred Additional Experience

• Familiarity with Safe Software’s core technologies or similar technical domains.
• Experience with multiple operating systems such as MacOS and Linux.
• Exposure to AI coding agents, including tools like Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
• Knowledge in building desktop applications using the Qt Framework, especially Qt Widgets.
