Overview
The Senior Project Accountant at McDermott plays a vital role in enhancing the project accounting function by applying best practices and leveraging deep expertise. This role serves as a mentor to less experienced colleagues and addresses complex challenges within project accounting. The position influences various customer, operational, and project activities while ensuring compliance with company policies.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams to comprehend contract billing requirements.
- Prepare and critically review customer invoices for third-party clients.
- Provide support documentation for intercompany project billing activities.
- Verify and reconcile intercompany account balances.
- Prepare accruals for unbilled project costs.
- Generate and assess Executive Summary Reports for intercompany projects ensuring consistency of data.
- Execute monthly system audit trail reports and investigate discrepancies relating to business unit classifications.
- Run and adjust reports related to Accounts Receivable Contract Status, Aging, and Unapplied Cash to assure accurate recording.
- Liaise with project managers and controls teams to finalize forecasts and prepare project financial reports for both local and corporate leadership.
- Coordinate with project procurement and subcontract coordinators to analyze and sustain sound project cash flow.
- Maintain strict internal financial controls, ensuring timely invoicing as per contract terms and accurate cost processing; serve as client audit liaison.
- Analyze costs charged to the project and provide input for various ad hoc financial reports as requested by management.
Qualifications
- Have 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in the oil & gas, Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI), or construction industries.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting.
- Possess accounting certification such as Chartered Accountant, ACCA, or CPA.
- Demonstrate experience with billing processes within the Energy and Construction sectors.
- Familiarity with ERP accounting software is required.
