About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Product Engineer to join our team in Auckland, working on VETos, an AI-powered operating system tailored for vocational education providers. This platform rapidly generates assessments, training materials, and compliance documentation based on sector-specific frameworks like NZQA, ASQA, and AQF, accomplishing in minutes what previously took weeks of specialized effort.
Responsibilities
As part of a dedicated co-build pod, you will collaborate closely with product engineers and subject-matter experts who actively use the product. You will take full ownership of features from initial investigation through to deployment, making meaningful decisions with significant autonomy. You will also leverage AI coding agents as an integral part of development, allowing you to focus on architecture, product quality, and technical craftsmanship to deliver polished, customer and regulator-ready outputs.
Candidate Profile
We expect candidates to have at least four years of senior engineering experience supported by strong expertise in TypeScript, Python, React, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. A robust practical background with generative AI technologies—including model SDKs, agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), multi-channel prompting (MCP), and prompt and context engineering—is essential. You should also demonstrate the ability to balance trade-offs related to cost, accuracy, and latency, confidently make complex technical or product decisions, communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, and maintain a curious but grounded outlook on the evolving AI landscape.
