Overview
Join a proactive, solution-oriented Planning team dedicated to supporting a variety of clients and projects that balance development aspirations with preserving Central Otago's distinctive natural environment. This full-time, permanent position located in Alexandra offers an opportunity to lead complex planning initiatives and provide mentorship within a collaborative team.
Role Purpose
As a Senior Planning Officer, you will be instrumental in delivering excellent planning results for Central Otago. The position requires a combination of technical planning proficiency, confident decision-making, and the ability to guide and develop staff, helping facilitate responsible growth across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee urban and rural land use and subdivision development projects.
- Protect heritage buildings and precincts through careful planning and oversight.
- Handle planning matters related to industrial and commercial development.
- Make informed decisions on planning applications and provide mentorship to junior team members.
- Offer practical, solution-driven guidance to clients and stakeholders.
- Support the Planning team in promoting sustainable development while conserving Central Otago’s unique landscapes.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in planning, preferably encompassing land use, subdivision, heritage, industrial, and commercial development topics.
- Strong judgment skills with confidence in making or supporting complex planning decisions.
- A cooperative and solution-focused approach when engaging with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop team members, enhancing overall team expertise.
- Clear and effective communication skills committed to delivering high-quality advice.
- A sincere interest in contributing positively to the Central Otago community’s growth and wellbeing.
