About the Role
The Māoriatoto Library is an important community center where residents come to learn, connect, and explore new ideas. We are seeking a motivated and customer-oriented Library Assistant to support the delivery of excellent library services, particularly focusing on youth due to our strong connection with local schools. This is a permanent part-time position based in Ranfurly, working under the supervision of the Māniatoto Library Team Leader. The role involves offering welcoming customer service, supporting library programs, managing collections, and helping patrons engage with digital tools and resources.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide courteous, professional, and helpful service to all library patrons.
- Handle circulation duties such as issuing, returning, and reserving library items.
- Register new library members and maintain accurate user records.
- Offer reader advice and assist users in finding books and other resources.
- Support customers with digital resources, including usage of devices, public computers, Wi-Fi, and self-service technology.
- Facilitate printing, scanning, and photocopying services.
- Maintain the library’s collection through shelving, shelf audits, weeding, and minor repairs.
- Assist with community programs and events like story times, school visits, digital literacy sessions, and workshops.
- Contribute ideas for developing displays, programming, and library services.
Candidate Profile
- Experience providing customer service in a public or community-facing role.
- Strong digital skills and comfortable using technology across platforms.
- Effective communication abilities, both written and spoken.
- Patience and professionalism when assisting library users.
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.
- A passion for books, reading, and community education.
- Particular enthusiasm for engaging with children and fostering positive experiences for young patrons.
