Senior Planner

Position Overview

Join an expert team of planners based in Wellington as a senior planner, collaborating with a nationwide group of 60 specialists. You will contribute your technical expertise and client-focused approach to diverse and meaningful projects involving prominent clients such as Tiaki Wai, Wellington City Council, Transpower, NZ Transport Agency, Department of Conservation, Ministry of Education, renewable energy entities, and industrial clients. Recent engagements include the Te Ara Tupua shared path, Porirua wastewater storage tank, and Wellington's sludge minimisation facility.

Role Responsibilities and Opportunities

In this role, you will provide high-quality planning advice for complex, multi-disciplinary projects, fostering strong client relationships and playing a crucial part in community-impacting ventures across Aotearoa New Zealand. You'll collaborate with professionals from transport, landscape architecture, urban design, environmental advisory, and engineering backgrounds. Candidate Profile

• Possess a degree in planning, environmental management, or a related field along with full or provisional NZPI membership.
• Have over six years of New Zealand experience in urban or environmental planning.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the Resource Management Act (RMA) and hands-on experience in statutory and strategic planning.
• Preferably have regional consenting experience.
• Positive teamwork and collaborative approach with experience in mentoring or developing colleagues.
• Strong commercial insight and client service orientation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, mana whenua, stakeholders, and the wider public.
• Consultancy background and experience in water, transport, energy sectors, or work involving industrial and government clients will be advantageous.
