About the Role

Flatpay is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to manage the complete monthly payroll process for over 330 employees, with plans to expand to approximately 700 employees. This position requires ensuring timely and precise payroll execution in accordance with UK regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire payroll cycle monthly for 330+ staff, preparing for business growth.
  • Collaborate with various departments and team leads to verify payroll data accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll laws including PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, employee benefits, and pension auto-enrollment.
  • Prepare pension contribution reports and coordinate submissions to pension providers.
  • Record and post monthly payroll journal entries ensuring accurate accounting of payroll expenses.
  • Submit real-time payroll data to HMRC via RTI accurately and punctually.
  • Keep employee payroll records updated, managing joiners, leavers, and contractual changes.
  • Respond to and resolve employee payroll queries professionally and promptly.
  • Handle sensitive payroll information with confidentiality and according to data protection standards.
  • Support Senior Accountant in month-end closing, payroll reconciliations, and related financial reporting.
  • Assist the Finance team with various ad hoc payroll and finance tasks.
  • Work closely with HR to maintain accurate and timely payroll information flow between departments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll in the UK.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NI, statutory leave payments, auto-enrollment, and RTI compliance.
  • Experience with payslip management, benefits administration, and pension processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, comfortably handling large data sets.
  • Familiarity with commission-based payroll calculations.
  • Proficient with payroll software such as PayEscape, Phase 3, or equivalent cloud-based systems.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Legal right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Holding or pursuing the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) certification.
  • Previous experience in a rapidly growing or scaling organisation.
