Position Overview
This role is for a Manufacturing Engineer based at our Ennis, Ireland facility, concentrating on electrical engineering support within the manufacturing site. You will play a pivotal role in defining product and process specifications to meet rigorous customer and regulatory standards for high-reliability discrete semiconductor products. Responsibilities include managing electrical screening and sampling processes aligned with military, aerospace, and internal guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects related to high-reliability screening such as High Temperature Reverse Bias (HTRB), burn-in, and other electrical test methodologies.
- Collaborate with site engineers on equipment assessment and qualification, enhancing process consistency, quality, and environmental health and safety compliance.
- Acquire comprehensive expertise in products, processes, and test equipment to guide technical decisions on product disposition during screening and sampling phases.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, test methods, and customer source control requirements.
- Apply principles of reliability engineering including failure mechanisms and acceleration models to improve screening effectiveness.
- Analyze data using statistical process control and drive root cause and corrective action processes for yield, quality, and equipment challenges.
- Develop innovative solutions and automation initiatives to advance process capabilities, maintaining Microchip’s leadership in high-reliability semiconductors.
- Maintain thorough documentation for processes, test flows, and specifications.
Working Schedule
This position operates on a fixed weekend shift schedule: Thursday to Monday, from 08:00 to 16:30, with Tuesday and Wednesday off. This pattern ensures consistent engineering support for weekend manufacturing activities.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree (Level 8) in Engineering or Physics; Electronic/Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Knowledge or exposure to continuous improvement and quality methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, DOE, DMAIC, FMEA, and SPC is beneficial.
- Familiarity with semiconductor device physics, discrete power devices (e.g., diodes, bipolar transistors), or ATE/electrical test environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and understanding of semiconductor device behavior.
- Capacity to quickly learn and accurately apply detailed product and process knowledge.
- Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, including technical writing and verbal reporting.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and within cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in PC applications including Microsoft Office; experience with data analytics tools like JMP, Minitab, or Excel is a plus.
- Self-driven, flexible, keen on skill development, team-oriented, and aligned with Microchip’s culture and values.
