Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager for Technical Program Management (TPM) to lead and grow a team of TPMs within our Engineering division. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and expand a newly established R&D PMO at GitLab, defining the future program management strategy in the Engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and provide consistent feedback to a team of TPMs to support their professional growth and success.
• Collaborate with the Director of Technical Program Management and cross-functional leadership to define staffing needs and assign TPMs aligned with business priorities.
• Develop, implement, and continuously refine program management standards such as documentation guidelines, project planning, reporting, and post-mortem processes.
• Set a long-term strategy and vision for the PM function that aligns with broader company objectives, including growth plans and job family development.
• Establish and maintain effective partnerships across Engineering, Product, Security, and GTM teams to drive program success.
• Identify risks, resolve conflicts, and remove barriers ensuring timely delivery of programs.
• Define, monitor, and drive accountability through key performance indicators (KPIs) for both programs and team members.
• Lead strategic planning efforts influencing staffing, project timelines, and key stakeholders.
• Model leadership qualities consistent with GitLab’s values and expectations for managers.

Qualifications

• Previous experience managing people and performing as an individual contributor TPM, preferably with senior-level exposure.
• Strong ability to prioritize responsibilities and delegate tasks effectively.
• Demonstrated success collaborating with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience crafting and executing strategic development plans for teams.
• Capability to coach others in driving cross-functional, product-centered initiatives without direct authority.
• Established reputation as trusted partners and thought leaders within organizations.
