Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Magento Engineer tasked with leading and enhancing critical checkout functions, including payments, promotions, gift vouchers, and order fulfillment integrations. Your focus will be on delivering a rapid, dependable, and scalable checkout process, especially during peak sales seasons such as Christmas. Experience with Magento 2 production environments, performance tuning, and managing scalable, high-demand eCommerce platforms is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain custom Magento 2 modules related to checkout, payments, promotions, and vouchers, ensuring adequate testing coverage.
• Integrate Magento with various payment service providers and internal applications using REST APIs and messaging queues.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in caching, indexing, message queues, and the checkout process; participate in load testing ahead of peak periods.
• Analyze and remediate production issues utilizing logs, metric data, and performance traces.
• Conduct code reviews, contribute to architectural and design discussions, and optimize CI/CD pipeline workflows.
• Leverage AI coding tools for development tasks such as writing, refactoring, reviewing, and testing code, validating output thoroughly before deployment.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

• At least five years of experience implementing and maintaining Magento 2 in production environments; familiarity with Open Source Magento or Adobe Commerce platforms.
• Deep understanding of Magento internals including dependency injection, plugins, observers, service contracts, module architecture, and message queues.
• Proficiency in modern PHP (version 8.x), strong object-oriented programming skills, and consistent writing of PHPUnit tests.
• Hands-on experience optimizing performance in busy eCommerce stores, including full-page caching, Redis usage, indexing, and optimization of MySQL queries.
• Knowledge of observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing) appropriate for high-traffic eCommerce.
• Frontend skills relevant to Magento theming such as Knockout.js, RequireJS, and Tailwind CSS.
• Regular use of Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines; Kubernetes experience is beneficial, with support provided for upskilling as needed.
• Familiarity with agentic AI development tools like Claude Code or equivalents within engineering workflows.
• Comprehensive use of AI throughout the development lifecycle including scaffolding, code generation, refactoring, testing, review, debugging, and documentation, with strong judgment to verify and own AI-generated content.
• Capability to efficiently manage AI prompt engineering in an actual codebase; experience with MCP-based integrations is advantageous.
• Ability to maintain composure under pressure and communicate trade-off decisions clearly among engineering, product, and QA teams.
