We are expanding our presence in Berlin, attracted by its combination of top technical talent and vibrant creative culture, alongside proximity to our Dublin and London R&D centers. Over the next year, we aim to hire 100 professionals in Berlin across engineering, AI, data science, product, and design to make significant impact as part of our founding R&D team there.
Role Overview
The Machine Learning team at Fin is responsible for designing innovative ML features, researching cutting-edge algorithms, and swiftly bringing prototypes to customers. Our focus is intensely product-oriented, partnering closely with Product and Design teams. Dedicated ML engineers help rapidly move from prototype to production, often launching betas within weeks of validation. Our solutions span supervised models, unsupervised clustering, and novel transformer neural network applications, always with thorough impact measurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities where machine learning can add substantial value to customers.
- Frame product challenges appropriately for ML solutions.
- Collaborate closely with teammates, Product, and Design teams.
- Perform exploratory data analysis and in-depth research.
- Gain a deep understanding of problem domains.
- Research and select suitable algorithms and technologies.
- Balance pragmatism with innovative approaches when necessary.
- Conduct offline evaluations to validate algorithm effectiveness.
- Work with engineers to transition prototypes into production-ready features.
- Plan, measure, and share insights to guide iterative improvements.
- Engage in close partnerships across teams to develop excellent ML products.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive applied knowledge in machine learning.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on ML experience.
- Practical understanding of statistics including experiment design and handling confounding variables.
- Intermediate programming capabilities.
- Effective communication skills within engineering teams and cross-functional groups.
- Comfort dealing with ambiguous problem spaces.
- Advanced education in machine learning or related fields (e.g., MSc).
- Scientific approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Attributes
- Proven history of delivering ML products.
- PhD or research experience in a relevant domain.
- Specialized expertise in fields such as NLP, deep learning, Bayesian inference, reinforcement learning, or clustering.
- Strong foundation in statistics and mathematics.
- Experience with data visualization tools, SQL, and libraries like matplotlib.
