Job description
Overview
We are looking for a technically skilled Senior Linux Platform Development Engineer to join our Platform Development Linux team in Dublin. This role involves hands-on engineering aimed at designing, developing, and managing highly automated infrastructure platforms, distributed systems, and platform services that are critical to SIG’s global operations.
You will work extensively with Linux, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and platform engineering to create tools, automation, APIs, and services that facilitate reliable and scalable infrastructure performance.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and sustain internally-developed platform services, APIs, automation frameworks, engineering tools, and self-service platforms.
- Develop software and platform features predominantly using Python, focusing on scalable distributed systems and infrastructure services.
- Lead design and evolution of SIG’s global OpenStack and Kubernetes platforms, incorporating platform services, integrations, operators, controllers, and automation tools.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, GitOps methodologies, Infrastructure-as-Code, monitoring, and automation workflows supporting platform operations and delivery.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems across Linux, OpenStack, Kubernetes, networking, storage, virtualization, and distributed systems.
- Engage in architectural design, uphold engineering standards, and guide technical direction through reviews, design discussions, and governance activities.
Required Qualifications
- Proven Linux engineering expertise, including troubleshooting kernel, networking, storage, virtualization, and production-scale environments.
- Strong Python development skills and experience creating automation frameworks, APIs, engineering tools, or infrastructure platforms utilized by engineering teams.
- Extensive hands-on experience in OpenStack platform development, architecture, engineering standards, and leadership within large-scale or globally distributed setups.
- Significant involvement in Kubernetes platform engineering, including design, operation, and enhancements of production environments via automation, operators, controllers, and integrations.
- Expertise in designing and managing large distributed systems and bespoke infrastructure platforms across globally dispersed engineering groups.
Desirable Experience
- Background in building internal developer platforms, shared infrastructure services, self-service systems, or productivity-focused engineering tooling.
- Experience with large-scale distributed infrastructure including multi-region configurations, hybrid cloud deployments, or distributed storage systems.
- Contributions to open-source software or familiarity using AI-driven development tools to speed up platform engineering, automation, and software delivery.
