Role Overview
The Senior Inventory Officer at Kansanshi Mining Plc, reporting to the Warehouse Manager and Superintendent and supervising the Inventory Supervisor, ensures optimal inventory levels and accurate stock management to support maintenance and operations aligned with production targets, minimizing overstocking.
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with all pertinent health, safety, environmental, quality, financial, and HR policies and legal requirements associated with this role.
- Manage inventory cataloguing and verification across multiple warehouses, maintaining alignment with annual and monthly inventory schedules.
- Perform and oversee regular stocktaking activities, monitor stock movements, and update accurate inventory records in company databases.
- Collaborate with procurement and purchasing teams to ensure timely stock replenishment, preventing shortages or excesses.
- Compile and submit comprehensive inventory reports including stock levels, turnover ratios, and aging analysis to aid management decisions.
- Identify and implement improvements in inventory processes to enhance turnover and decrease waste.
- Lead and mentor inventory personnel, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures; assume warehouse superintendent duties during absences.
- Work collaboratively with logistics, supply chain, and finance departments to align inventory strategies with organizational objectives.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Verification of all academic qualifications by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) is mandatory.
- Minimum Grade 12 certificate with at least grade 4 in Maths and English.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Purchasing & Supply or Full CIPS UK Graduate Professional Diploma.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Experience with stock cataloguing and classification systems like Auslang and NATO Coding & Classifications Systems.
- Membership in the Zambia Institute of Purchasing & Supply.
- At least five years of experience in various Supply Chain Management roles.
- Sound knowledge of materials, spares, and equipment typical in the mining sector.
- Competence in ERP software such as Pronto.
Behavioural Competencies
- Effective verbal communication with both junior staff and senior officials to resolve issues.
- Strong written communication skills for engaging end-users, procurement, and suppliers in complex problem resolution.
- Ability to interpret basic technical documents and drawings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for addressing stock issues collaboratively.
- Knowledge of mining materials application across the site.
- Capability to produce ad hoc reports for various stakeholders, including government agencies.
- Ability to perform under high pressure to promptly manage stock demands and prevent operational disruptions.
- Forward planning skills considering stock impact, safety, service levels, lead times, economic order quantities, and quality.
Operational Knowledge
- Understanding warehousing procedures such as receiving, issuing, stock control, stocktaking, inspection, safety, and quality compliance.
- Ability to prioritize stock requests based on material criticality.
