Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Role Overview

This position is on behalf of a partner company seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer based in Saudi Arabia. The role involves designing, building, and enhancing infrastructure that supports large-scale, customer-facing products. You will be responsible for end-to-end ownership of critical infrastructure systems, covering everything from architecture and implementation to production operations and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of a core infrastructure product or subsystem, including its design, implementation, deployment, operation, and ongoing enhancements.
• Set project goals with clear success metrics, align technical efforts with business objectives, and proactively manage risks.
• Convert product requirements and technical specs into practical designs that handle edge cases without overcomplicating solutions.
• Build and sustain secure, resilient, high-performance, and cost-effective infrastructure to support diverse workloads.
• Create and deploy software and developer tools that boost engineering productivity and reduce manual operational work.
• Manage infrastructure via code and configurations primarily using Terraform, ensuring alignment with architectural standards.
• Collaborate with product engineering teams to scale services, clarify ambiguous technical requirements, and engage directly with stakeholders.
• Participate in incident response by diagnosing issues using systematic debugging within your domain and across related services.
• Enhance monitoring and observability to leverage operational data for improvements in stability, performance, and reliability.
• Adopt a security-first approach in infrastructure and software development, proactively identifying vulnerabilities in your work and during peer reviews.
• Act as a technical leader by providing mentorship through code reviews, pair programming, and design discussions.
• Support cross-team collaboration on architecture, processes, and infrastructure priorities.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• 6 to 10 years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or backend engineering, primarily within cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Proven track record of owning significant products, platform components, or subsystems from design to production and evolution.
• T-shaped expertise: deeply specialized in one or two infrastructure areas, while possessing broad knowledge across the technology stack.
• Extensive hands-on experience using Terraform or a similar infrastructure-as-code tool for infrastructure management.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud infrastructure fundamentals including networking, load balancing, containerization, Kubernetes/EKS, and distributed systems.
• Strong programming abilities in Go, Python, or equivalent languages to develop and maintain production-ready software.
• Operational experience with Redis or ElastiCache in production environments, including cluster/shard management, failover, memory policies, and scaling.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and experience in performance tuning and incident handling.
• Solid software engineering practices including version control, code reviews, comprehensive testing, edge-case considerations, and safe deployment techniques.
• High degree of ownership and autonomy with the ability to work effectively with incomplete or ambiguous requirements.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to articulate technical decisions and foster consensus among engineers and stakeholders.
• Proficient in written and spoken English for producing design documents, reviewing code, and communicating project or operational status.
