About Xero and the Reporting Team
Xero is dedicated to enhancing small business operations through exceptional technology. The Reporting Platform is a vital component within Xero's ecosystem, supporting more than 150 distinct reports, including Profit & Loss and Revenue Statements, and serving millions of users, accountants, and bookkeepers worldwide.
The engineering team spans across Wellington and Vancouver, contributing to a high-scale platform system. We are currently looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to lead technical initiatives, modernize legacy software frameworks, and promote engineering excellence within a dynamic development pod.
Role Overview
This role requires a balanced approach, dedicating about half of your time to active coding and project execution alongside senior engineers, while the other half focuses on strategic activities such as technical discovery, incident management, and planning long-term roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and deliver product features for the Reporting platform, ensuring a balance between rapid development, high quality, and adhering to architectural standards in complex systems.
- Lead modernization efforts for legacy .NET frameworks by overseeing safe traffic shifts and large-scale update rollouts.
- Explore and integrate artificial intelligence capabilities both into reporting products and the software development lifecycle to enhance the developer experience.
- Manage incident responses effectively, take part in the on-call rotation, and implement strong testing and continuous deployment methodologies.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, improving project planning across multiple quarters and cultivating an inclusive engineering culture.
Required Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable experience working with large-scale, high-transaction systems, preferably in sectors like Fintech, Banking, SaaS, or Medtech.
- Solid understanding of full-stack development with a focus on .NET / C#, React, and SQL; legacy modernization expertise is highly valued.
- Strong ownership mentality with excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude towards delivering end-to-end solutions.
- Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration through technical discovery and alignment of stakeholders on long-term projects.
