About the Role
The Senior Field Engineer will leverage engineering expertise to enhance field engineering operations at McDermott International. Acting as a lead offshore engineer, this role involves offering conceptual and applied knowledge to solve complex challenges and improve processes and services within the discipline. The position requires close collaboration with customers, clients, and project teams while adhering to specifications, standards, and company policies.
Primary Responsibilities
- Evaluate all technical project documents after contract award to identify discrepancies with pre-contract documents or deficiencies in tender methods.
- Participate in bid interviews with local management and engage in global management reviews.
- Ensure all bid inputs receive approval from Division Manager and General Superintendent prior to submission; diving budgets require Diving Manager approval.
- Prepare technical clarifications and qualifications on scopes of work, drawings, and specifications to be submitted to the proposal coordinator.
- Formulate plans and allocate resources to meet engineering deliverables within scheduled timelines.
- Monitor project progress to avoid major delays or issues.
- Lead the preparation of installation documentation, procurement, and fabrication materials including scopes of work, procedures, drawings, and sketches.
- Verify accuracy and contractual compliance of procurement, fabrication, and installation documents.
- Coordinate efficiently with other project departments.
- Support engineering matters for project/procurement subcontracting to ensure capable suppliers and service providers are selected.
- Establish work sequencing, choose equipment based on availability and project needs, and determine crew composition per project phase.
- Estimate duration of work by referencing similar past projects and create bar chart schedules for marine and vessel modification work.
- Develop cost estimates for offshore work including barge rigging, port clearances, and consumables, integrating inputs from Diving, E&M, and Safety teams.
- Collaborate with Construction Support Engineering to generate technical drawings for bids.
- Prepare safe work method procedures to meet project requirements for bid submissions.
- Identify subcontracted work within proposals and prepare technical descriptions and pricing with Subcontracts Administrator and Proposal Coordinator.
- Manage typical subcontracts such as survey, dredging/trenching, pipe haul barges, near shore crossings, and pipeline pre-commissioning.
- Review engineering data to ensure thoroughness and accuracy in bids.
- Respond to subcontractor technical clarifications.
- Prepare Technical Bid Evaluations to finalize installation vessels required.
- Assess subcontract qualifications and provide recommendations for lump sum and miscellaneous costs.
- Incorporate subcontract qualifications into company principal qualifications.
- Provide resource and schedule information for financial forecasting.
- Coordinate with company functions during tender preparation and review engineering studies related to offshore operations.
- Compile bid summary documents for all offshore inputs in major proposals.
- Develop Dive Task Plans for diving-related projects.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 7 to 9 years of experience in oil and gas industry with major contractors or consultancy firms.
- Minimum 2 to 3 years in operations and field engineering roles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel including Macros.
- Experience with MS Project scheduling software.
- Knowledge of subcontract operations and processes.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools including Word and PowerPoint.
- Basic skills in AutoCAD.
