Job Overview

This role involves managing all activities related to meter installation, replacement, testing, and maintenance to ensure precise measurement, minimize revenue losses related to meters, and promptly handle related customer complaints. Additionally, the position oversees the entire new connection process from application evaluation to energisation while ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulatory guidelines such as the MERC Supply Code.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and oversee technician teams to install, replace, and routinely test meters, including addressing defective or stuck meters.
• Continuously monitor meter condition, analyze MRI/AMR data, and identify meters needing replacement or inspection for tampering.
• Collaborate with revenue protection and vigilance teams to investigate suspected meter tampering or theft incidents.
• Ensure rapid resolution of all meter-related customer complaints such as inaccurate readings, burnt, or malfunctioning meters.
• Maintain accurate records of meter stock in cooperation with stock management and guarantee compliance with calibration and testing protocols.
• Measure and communicate key performance indicators related to meter management to divisional leadership, including complaint backlogs, replacement turnaround times, and faulty meter percentages.
• Supervise technician adherence to safety measures during meter installations or replacements.
• Manage the end-to-end process for new electricity connections (both LT and HT) including application scrutiny, technical feasibility analysis, load sanctioning, estimate preparation, and site inspections.
• Coordinate with technicians for service line laying, meter installations, and testing of new connections.
• Engage with customers, contractors, and internal teams managing planning, metering, and billing to address queries or delays.
• Ensure correct assignment of tariff categories, loads, and documentation in line with the MERC Supply Code.
• Maintain and report on MIS trackers related to new connection pendency, aging, and turnaround times to senior management.
• Enforce safety standards and perform quality checks for all new service connections.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Proficient understanding of various types of electrical energy meters including electromechanical, static, and smart/AMR meters.
• Expertise in meter testing techniques and troubleshooting procedures.
• Experience supervising technician teams.
• Familiarity with management information systems and complaint tracking solutions.
• Knowledge of revenue protection methods and anti-theft strategies.
• Technical knowledge of LT and HT service connections.
• Understanding of regulatory frameworks such as the MERC Supply Code.
• Ability to coordinate site activities, vendor management, and customer interactions.
• Competence in MS Office and utility billing software applications.
