Senior Director Functional Safety

Position Overview

The Senior Director Functional Safety will lead a diverse team of over 40 engineers focused on ensuring functional safety throughout new product development at NXP Semiconductors. This role encompasses management of individuals working on functional safety architecture, safety management, and creation of reusable intellectual property assets for various NXP products. The team is globally distributed across multiple international sites including Austin, Milan, Toulouse, Noida, Bangalore, Munich, Glasgow, Hamburg, and Nijmegen. This is a second-level management position reporting directly to the Vice President of Global Safety within the organization headed by the Chief Technology Officer.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and empower team managers to successfully drive functional safety efforts across microcontroller, microprocessor, and analog product lines.
• Define the technology roadmap for IP and assets that enhance efficient delivery of functional safety for upcoming new products.
• Oversee customer support and enablement initiatives related to functional safety through delegated leadership.
• Promote adoption and alignment of best practices for functional safety development, coordinating closely with hardware and software safety teams.
• Innovate new capabilities, including leveraging AI, to radically improve efficiency in functional safety processes.
• Build and nurture collaborative partnerships internally across business lines and externally to support business, quality, and efficiency objectives.
• Lead Functional Safety Technical Steering Team activities involving technology roadmap planning and cross-business coordination.

Experience and Background

• Over 10 years of combined technical experience in functional safety, chip design, and electronic system design.
• Preferred experience in systems, hardware, and software engineering related to functional safety.
• Knowledge of automotive and/or industrial market requirements from a functional safety perspective.
• Minimum 5 years in leadership roles managing multiple focus areas and geographically dispersed managerial teams.
