Role Overview

The Senior DevOps Engineer at Shift plays a crucial role in shaping our cloud infrastructure, security strategies, and operational continuity. Rather than simply executing predefined change requests, you will contribute to pivotal decisions on infrastructure design and maintenance. This hands-on position requires ownership of complex infrastructure and security challenges from conception to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead advanced DevOps and security projects across Shift’s cloud systems, overseeing all lifecycle stages.
• Develop, sustain, and constantly refine deployment pipelines aligned with DevOps best practices.
• Manage security assessments including vulnerability scans and oversee remediation efforts for production, data, and operational assets.
• Establish security best practices through policies, risk evaluations, controls, and procedures while coaching the infrastructure team.
• Continuously monitor emerging security threats and technology trends to proactively mitigate risks.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to integrate security from the initial stages of application and tool development.
• Address overdue infrastructure and security enhancement initiatives comprehensively to avoid recurring issues.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of five years’ experience in cloud infrastructure or security-related roles.
• Extensive practical expertise with Azure or AWS cloud platforms, including both IaaS and PaaS; primary operations are on Azure.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or C#.
• Hands-on familiarity with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes and working knowledge of Helm.
• Strong understanding of security basics, including Identity and Access Management (IAM), Web Application Firewall (WAF), and vulnerability management, supported by real-world applications.
• Experience using CSPM/KSPM tools, network security controls (NSGs, firewalls, private links, application gateways), and secrets management technologies like Azure Key Vault.
• Track record of creating and managing CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as GitHub Enterprise, Flux CD, Argo CD, or Octopus Deploy.
• Preferred experience with Azure Entra ID; additional exposure to Azure SQL or application performance monitoring tools like Dynatrace is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently with a proactive attitude in a fast-paced, lean team environment.
