Senior Design Manager

Overview

A leading international engineering consultancy is seeking a seasoned Senior Design Manager for a prominent Cargo Terminal and International Airport initiative in East Africa. The role demands providing senior-level leadership and ensuring smooth coordination throughout the project's design phases to meet all requirements, standards, and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the entire design process across all stages of the project lifecycle.
• Facilitate coordination among various disciplines including architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Review design submissions for adherence to project specifications, codes, and standards.
• Track design progress, monitor deliverables, and manage interfaces and schedules.
• Identify and resolve challenges related to design coordination and technical interfaces.
• Provide design and technical management assistance to the Project Director and project teams.
• Ensure alignment and coordination between design activities and construction, particularly during on-site execution.
• Support design modifications, value engineering processes, and technical assessments as needed.
• Oversee design management within an active airport environment where applicable.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 15 years of professional experience managing large, complex projects.
• A minimum of 10 years working on significant international airport projects.
• Experience operating within functioning airport environments is strongly preferred.
• At least 5 years of on-site project experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in multidisciplinary design coordination and management.
• In-depth knowledge of design workflows, technical interfaces, and construction considerations.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills alongside stakeholder management capabilities.
