Senior Database Administrator

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Database Administrator highly skilled in managing Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL database systems. This position demands expertise in database administration, ensuring system high availability, backup and restoration, disaster recovery planning, performance enhancements, security measures, and effective troubleshooting in enterprise-scale settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, operate, and resolve issues related to Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases.
• Architect and oversee PostgreSQL high-availability solutions utilizing Patroni, etcd/Consul, HAProxy, and PgBouncer.
• Administer backup and recovery processes for PostgreSQL using pgBackRest.
• Implement and control MySQL high-availability setups using Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC).
• Handle database replication, migration, updates, restoration, and backup activities.
• Continuously monitor the health, availability, capacity, and performance metrics of databases.
• Optimize database performance through tuning and query improvement strategies.
• Enforce database security protocols, access management, and regulatory compliance practices.
• Automate routine administrative and operational tasks with scripting and specialized automation tools.
• Develop and update disaster recovery and business continuity methodologies.
• Investigate and rectify database-related incidents promptly to minimize production downtime.
• Document database configurations, operational procedures, and recovery protocols meticulously.

Required Skills and Technical Expertise

• Extensive hands-on experience administering Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases.
• Proficient knowledge of PostgreSQL high availability architectures, including tools such as Patroni, etcd/Consul, HAProxy, and PgBouncer.
• Strong background in PostgreSQL backup and recovery strategies employing pgBackRest.
• Experience managing MySQL high availability using Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC).
• Deep understanding of database replication and synchronization techniques.
• Proven ability in database migration, upgrading, backups, and restoration procedures.
• Skilled in performance tuning, optimization, and resolving database performance bottlenecks.
• Competency in database monitoring, security implementation, automation, and troubleshooting processes.
• Comprehensive grasp of disaster recovery concepts, high availability, recovery point and time objectives (RPO/RTO), and recovery tactics.
• Strong Linux/Unix system administration and scripting capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related areas.
• Minimum of seven years in database administration with significant exposure to enterprise-level production environments.
• Proven experience in overseeing critical database systems requiring high availability.
• Excellent capabilities in analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting complex issues.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within teams.

Preferred Attributes

• Prior involvement in large-scale enterprise or financial sector database environments.
• Possession of relevant certifications related to Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Linux, or cloud technologies is advantageous.
