Role Overview
Join the Digital, Data & AI team in Abbott Sligo to influence the future of Life Sciences through data, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence. We seek skilled professionals with solid technical expertise and a deep understanding of the Life Sciences industry, especially those experienced in regulated environments like pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices.
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will lead advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI solution development that generate tangible business improvements at Abbott Diabetes Care. This involves collaborating closely with business and technology partners, guiding decision-making through predictive insights, and shaping the enterprise's advanced analytics strategy.
You will establish foundational data capabilities by creating standardized operational procedures, SOPs, and end-to-end scalable processes that ensure consistent high-quality data management across the organization. Flexibility in working hours is necessary to support global team collaboration and business priorities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI projects aligned with strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to discover opportunities where data-driven solutions can drive measurable value.
- Define metrics and analytical methods that correlate with business outcomes.
- Deliver actionable insights and predictive analytics to influence informed decision-making.
- Contribute to the development of the Abbott ADC AI and advanced analytics roadmap.
- Design, develop, deploy, and optimize machine learning models and predictive algorithms using structured and unstructured data.
- Apply advanced statistical techniques, forecasting, optimization, simulation, and machine learning to complex challenges.
- Validate models to ensure accuracy, robustness, transparency, and relevance.
- Support the operational deployment of analytical solutions in synergy with Data Engineering teams.
- Engage with business leaders to understand priorities and translate analytical findings into clear recommendations.
- Present insights and value realization outcomes to stakeholders at various organizational levels.
- Promote responsible and ethical use of AI, ensuring compliance with governance, quality, security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
- Partner with Data Governance and Data Product teams to build trusted analytical data foundations and maintain model governance.
- Stay informed about emerging AI technologies such as Generative AI, Large Language Models, and intelligent automation.
- Mentor colleagues on analytical best practices and foster organizational data literacy.
- Champion continuous innovation and improvement across Abbott's Data, AI & Analytics ecosystem.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success delivering machine learning, AI, and advanced analytics solutions that produce measurable business benefits.
- Proficient in Databricks, AWS, Python, SQL, and modern cloud analytics platforms.
- Strong expertise in statistical modeling, predictive analytics, model lifecycle management, and deploying AI/ML solutions into production environments.
- Comprehensive understanding of Data Governance, Data Quality, Model Governance, and Responsible AI frameworks.
- Experience working in regulated Life Sciences or related environments, familiar with GxP, CSV, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, ALCOA+, and Quality Management Systems.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing, and communication skills at executive levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) in relevant disciplines.
- Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models, RAG architectures, and emerging AI technologies.
- Knowledge of operational, manufacturing, supply chain, or healthcare datasets.
- Skills in data visualization and storytelling using Power BI, Tableau, or AWS QuickSight.
- Familiarity with Oracle enterprise data environments and large-scale cloud ecosystems.
