Senior Data Scientist Analytics

About the Role

The Analytics division of REWE Group operates within the Digital & Technology board area, consolidating all strategic, analytical, and business support functions under one umbrella for the German retail sector. Their mission is to integrate Advanced Analytics and Artificial Intelligence as core capabilities and value drivers in all key business decisions of REWE. The work environment is agile and technologically advanced, fostering the development of analytic products and use cases that elevate AA & AI in the German grocery retail market.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive impactful Advanced Analytics projects in grocery retail to sustainably optimize decision-making processes, taking a leading role in shaping data science strategy and realizing business potential.
• Manage end-to-end development and deployment of complex models and machine learning pipelines for forecasting, classification, recommendation, and scoring use cases, ensuring continuous quality control.
• Handle data management of both structured and unstructured data across various database systems such as GCP/BigQuery and Snowflake, as well as analysis frameworks like Hadoop and Spark.
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary, agile teams, proactively coordinating with business units and stakeholders to transform data into actionable insights.
• Provide technical mentorship and coaching to junior colleagues, establish standards, and ensure best practices in methodologies and coding are applied.

Candidate Profile

• Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking paired with strong communication skills, especially with non-technical colleagues, a passion for data analysis, and fluent German language proficiency.
• Ability to quickly understand new challenging business questions and flexibly respond with tailored analytical models.
• Strong service and team orientation, enjoying work in a dynamic and agile environment, while staying current on technologies and developments.
• Master's degree with a focus on Data Science or Analytics (e.g., Business Informatics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics) preferably with business-related background or a doctorate.
• Practical experience in data analysis, data science, and big data projects including cloud environments; proficient in the full product lifecycle of analytic software solutions with an emphasis on deployment and monitoring of ML models.
• Advanced programming skills and hands-on experience in Python and SQL; familiarity with popular data science libraries and tools such as scikit-learn, pandas, Matplotlib, and Jupyter notebooks; experience with big data frameworks like Apache Spark.
• Desirable knowledge of professional software development practices including version control (Git), continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD), and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
