About the Team

Walmart Labs Bengaluru operates at a tremendous scale, serving 260 million customers weekly across 11,695 stores under 59 banners in 28 countries, along with e-commerce sites in 11 countries. The Personalization team strives to understand customers deeply and create seamless, frictionless shopping experiences both online and in-store. By working across Walmart’s vast assortment, millions of customers, thousands of stores, and numerous associates, we design AI-powered systems that tailor user journeys to individual preferences with the goal of enabling one-to-one personalization.

Our team combines data scientists, application engineers, and product innovators to build state-of-the-art machine learning technologies. These include rapid A/B testing environments, GPU/CPU-based online inferencing for deep learning models, and event-driven architectures supporting personalized experiences across multiple markets and business models.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques including deep neural networks and Bayesian models.
• Create scalable and efficient models capable of handling Walmart’s large-scale data environment.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with business, engineering, and science teams to deliver impactful results.
• Define and track model evaluation metrics and assess their ongoing business impact.
• Communicate complex analytical findings clearly to business stakeholders and influence strategic decisions.
• Continuously enhance data science and machine learning methodologies by adopting industry best practices and advancing current research.
• Integrate machine learning solutions into existing business processes and suggest standards tailored for retail applications.
• Advise stakeholders on algorithm-driven recommendations and translate them into actionable business initiatives.
• Participate in external technical events such as conferences and summits to represent Walmart’s data science capabilities.
• Uphold company policies and values, promoting ethics and integrity.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree with over 2 years relevant experience, or Master’s with more than 1 year, or PhD with over 1 year in Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
• Proficient in machine learning methods including supervised and unsupervised learning, NLP, classification, data and text mining, multi-modal models, and deep learning algorithms.
• Experience with embedding generation from training data, vector database management, managing LLM gateways, retrieval-augmented generation for LLM agents, prompt engineering, fine-tuning models using accuracy and user feedback, along with monitoring and governance.
• Strong programming skills in Python and PySpark, with experience in Google's Cloud Platform and model deployment.
• Familiarity with big data platforms and technologies.
