Senior Chartered Structural Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Chartered Structural/Civil Engineer for a permanent full-time position based in Cork City, Ireland. The individual will be integral to leading design projects within a growing engineering consultancy, providing technical leadership, ensuring quality project delivery, and managing multidiscipline collaborations.

Key Responsibilities

• Take charge of structural and civil engineering designs for a variety of projects including residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and educational sectors.
• Fulfil Design Certifier and Assigned Certifier roles as mandated.
• Prepare and scrutinize structural calculations, technical reports, specifications, and related documentation.
• Design structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete, timber, and masonry.
• Supervise civil engineering activities, such as drainage, roadworks, site developments, and related infrastructure projects.
• Review and authorize engineering designs created by junior staff.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project execution.
• Participate in project meetings, design assessments, and conduct on-site inspections.
• Ensure all designs comply with Irish Building Regulations, BCAR, Eurocodes, and applicable standards.
• Support project scheduling, resource planning, and management tasks.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering professional growth.
• Assist in business development efforts and enhance client relationship management.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Legal entitlement to work in Ireland is required.
• Possess a Level 8 degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Hold Chartered Engineer status (CEng) recognized by Engineers Ireland or an equivalent body.
• Have no less than ten years’ post-graduate experience within the Irish engineering sector.
• Demonstrated strong technical expertise in the design of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and foundation systems.
• Experience acting as Design Certifier or Assigned Certifier under BCAR regulations.
• Proven skills in civil engineering areas including drainage, site development, and infrastructure design.
• Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other structural engineering software.
• Exceptional English language abilities in communication and technical report writing.
• Possess a full driving licence.
• Strong project leadership and management capabilities.
• High attention to detail with dedication to quality standards.
• Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Good commercial insight and strategic mindset.
• Outstanding presentation and report-writing expertise.
