Job description
Role Summary
We are looking for a seasoned Senior Business Architect to contribute to a significant multi-year transformation initiative at a prominent tertiary institution based in Auckland, New Zealand. This contract role demands a practical, hands-on professional who can rapidly assimilate a multifaceted environment, prioritize impactful activities, and deliver a clear, actionable, and stakeholder-endorsed operating framework by the end of the current year.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate the existing operational setup, identifying key variations, gaps, and dependencies.
- Design a future-state operating framework encompassing people, processes, governance, and technology aspects.
- Define essential business capabilities, value streams, assigned roles, responsibilities, and decision authority.
- Establish enterprise-wide principles, operational guardrails, and standardized working methods.
- Decide on areas requiring standardization versus those permitting local flexibility.
- Convert strategic goals into actionable components of the operating model.
- Lead workshops involving senior leadership, business units, architects, and other program stakeholders.
- Foster stakeholder comprehension, alignment, and support for the proposed framework.
- Collaborate closely with the Process Designer to synchronize the framework with envisioned future-state processes.
- Develop strategic recommendations and an implementation timeline for 2027.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience as a Business Architect, Operating Model Leader, or Business Design Consultant.
- Demonstrable success in delivering operational targets models or enterprise operating frameworks.
- Strong expertise in business architecture, capability mapping, value stream analysis, and future-state designs.
- Proficient in integrating organizational roles, processes, governance models, data, and technological components.
- Skilled in balancing enterprise consistency with necessary business unit autonomy.
- Exemplary facilitation, communication, and senior stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- A pragmatic, action-oriented mindset capable of structuring ambiguous situations.
- Rapid assimilation ability with a track record of delivering high-quality results efficiently.
- Experience in tertiary education, service/customer transformation, or decentralized organizations is a plus.
Contract Details
The contract is scheduled to begin immediately and extend until December 18, 2026. Engagement occurs onsite in Auckland. The assignment is part of an extended program, with potential continuation opportunities into 2027.
