Senior Architectural Design Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Architectural Design Engineer to lead contractor-side architectural reviews and coordinate construction documentation including fit-out packages. This role is vital to safeguarding design intent, ensuring code compliance, maintaining quality, and promoting multidisciplinary integration on complex construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine architectural design packages from consultants and subcontractors including drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, reports, and proposed design changes.
• Ensure all architectural outputs adhere to approved design intent, project requirements, Saudi codes, regulatory standards, and international guidelines where applicable.
• Identify any omissions, inconsistencies, safety issues, technical risks, or buildability challenges; provide clear and well-documented feedback and recommendations.
• Review architectural layouts, façade designs, accessibility plans, fit-out packages, schedules, and landscaping interfaces for compliance and consistency.
• Manage approval processes for material samples, mock-ups, and visual and technical conformity with approved specifications.

• Develop, assess, and endorse architectural shop drawings, technical submissions, material submissions, method statements, and related calculations prior to dissemination or site implementation.
• Respond promptly to Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, and site clarifications; address design changes as per priority protocols.
• Perform site inspections to verify that construction complies with approved documents, intervening to correct or halt work if deviations or safety concerns are identified.
• Support testing, commissioning, creation of as-built documentation, and formal project handover activities.

• Coordinate architectural requirements with structural, MEP, civil infrastructure disciplines, and construction interfaces to ensure seamless integration.
• Review and resolve clashes within discipline models and reports; ensure consistent updates across drawings, models, and schedules.
• Participate actively in design, BIM, constructability, and coordination meetings; document decisions and close out assigned actions.

• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier technical proposals, compliance declarations, product substitutions, and alternatives.
• Identify and develop value engineering opportunities while upholding safety, performance, quality, maintainability, and contractual obligations.
• Maintain comprehensive records of risks, comments, RFIs, and decisions to facilitate management reporting and audits.

• Provide technical guidance, task delegation, and quality checks for Architectural Draftsman.
• Contribute documented technical feedback for staff performance reviews, coaching, and skill development.
• Assist the Technical Design Manager in creating discipline standards, checklists, lessons learned, and standard operating procedures.

• Review and approve architectural outputs internally within delegated authority and documented procedures.
• Reject inadequate submissions and require correction prior to external release or site implementation.
• Implement immediate technical holds and escalate stop-work actions when execution conflicts with approved documents, codes, or safety requirements.
• Propose technical alternatives, substitutions, and value-engineered solutions; ensure any changes affecting the original design follow approval and consultant clearance processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering is required.
• Proficiency in English communication, both written and spoken; Arabic language skills are preferred.
• At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, emphasizing contractor-side design review and coordination on complex building projects.
• Registration/classification with the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) appropriate to the position.
• Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud; knowledge of SketchUp and Lumion is a plus.
• Extensive understanding of the Saudi Building Code, and relevant accessibility, fire safety, and authority requirements.
• Experience with architectural design development for fit-outs, finishes, facades, accessibility, and building-envelope interfaces.
• Competence in managing material schedules, samples, mock-ups, and architectural shop drawings.
